Programme Steering Committee: Prof Michael Rieder

Prof Michael Rieder, MD, PhD, FRCPC, FAAP, FRCP (Glasgow)  University of Western Ontario -
Professor Rieder’s current appointments are within the Departments of Paediatrics, Physiology & Pharmacology at the University of Western Ontario and Medicine Chair of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology. He is also Site Leader for the Department of Consortium for Globalization of Chinese Medicine.  Prof Rieder received his medical degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1980. He trained in Paediatrics at Wayne State University, Children's Hospital of Michigan and in the subspecialties of Emergency Paediatrics and Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology at the Hospital for Sick Children. He carried out graduate work in Pharmacology at the University of Toronto as an MRC Centennial Fellow and received his PhD in 1992. He has received specialist certification in Paediatrics in Canada and the United States and has been named a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in recognition of his work in adverse drug reactions. Dr Rieder has received the K.F. Piafsky Young Investigators Award of the Canadian Society of Clinical Pharmacology as well as the Leon Goldberg Young Investigators Award from the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics which was the first time that this award had been given to an investigator working outside of the United States. He has been named as the inaugural holder of the GSK-CIHR Chair in Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology at The University of Western Ontario and this is the first endowed Chair in Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology in Canada.

Prof Rieder is a member of the ADRIC Steering Committee.
